| | Well it's hard to believe that both Boston and student teaching are over! Well technically I finish up teaching on Thursday but that day is a field trip and the next two days I just "exist" to quote my cooperating teacher haha. My supervisor came today and all the final paperwork is done....I got great reviews from both my cooperating teacher and also my supervisor so that is a wonderful feeling! I cannot believe it is over...I remember cold dark mornings in January when my alarm would go off at 5:30...ew! It has been a great "run" but I will be glad to not be getting up at 5:30 and having hundreds of things to correct/grade on a regular basis haha. I am ready for summer!
Running has been going decent. I did 35 miles last week...all pretty easy and around an 8:40/mile pace. I did my first longer run since Boston yesterday...10 miles. Today I did another 10, as I have a horseshow this weekend and will be gone. I did this one at a faster pace and felt relatively good. I was at 7:40 minute miles....the first 2 were slow because I had my dog with me. But the remainder were quicker. It was hot so I did get tired at the end, but I've just recently been running in hotter temps so I am sure that is why I'm a little tired. But overall it went well. Basically the plan is to be around 40 miles a week and get back to speedwork. I have a 5k on June 7 and I am dying to go under 20 minutes...I was so close last fall! (20:25). So I got some tempo miles in this run and maybe Wed I will see how some mile repeats go. I am also getting back into abs, as I neglected any form of ab workout for the past 15 weeks! I am sore but I like it in an odd way.
I am surprised at how quickly I bounced back from Boston...minimal soreness! After Rockford last spring, I was hurting pretty bad for an entire week! I attribute it to a higher max mileage this cycle. I actually feel that Boston is the best marathon I've run thus far. Chicago was so hot of course....Rockford went well but I went out too fast and there were hills at the end. I made my BQ but paid miserably for awhile haha. I think that if Boston was flat I would have had a big PR. I was only a minute or so off my marathon PR. Looking back, I wish I would have gone out just a touch faster at the first half of the course. OH well maybe next year! When I start training for Chicago in June, I plan to run in the heat to get used to it and also keep up on the speedwork. I also have learned that I need to do my runs at my assigned paces...ie run easy runs easy! Sometimes I do runs too fast and I think my speed days suffer as a result. In other words, go hard on hard days and easy on easy days. I am hoping my pace for Chicago is 8 minute miles....right now I am at about an 8:20ish so I think it's feasable. This would translate to a 3:30 marathon time which would for sure get me in wave 1 for next year's Boston! We will see what happens....I am out for now. Adios!
